Hawaii has continued to weather unrelenting rains on Saturday as Tropical Storm Lane slowly skirts the island state whilst dumping enough rain to trigger catastrophic flash-flooding and landslides.

The storm that has ripped through the Pacific this week rapidly disintegrated south of Honolulu on Friday night, but meteorologists have warned heavy rains and strong winds still pose a threat to the islands.

Early Saturday morning, Lane was located some 135 miles south-southwest of the Hawaii capital and creeping toward it at just 3mph.

At a news conference Friday, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell urged people not to let their guard down while acknowledging that the state had ‘dodged a bullet’.

Dramatic photographs show the devastating flooding Lane has left in its wake after it unleashed nearly three feet of rain over just 48 hours, forcing thousands of residents on the Big Island to flee their homes and seek shelter.
