Scripture & Prayer: Laying Hands (Jolie)

“…they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:18).

“Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit” (Acts 8:17).

“…stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands” (2 Tim. 1:6).

“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established” (Rom. 1:11). NKJV

laying hands: Man praying on his knees

Heavenly Father, thank You for impartations. An impartation is when something is spiritually transferred from one person to another, either by the laying on of hands, by touch, or by voice. In the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers, the laying on of hands imparted blessings. In the Gospels, the books of Acts, Romans, and 2 Timothy, You teach us that by voice and / or the laying on of hands: people received impartations for healing, spiritual gifts and / or the baptism of the Holy Spirit. So in all these instances, good, pure, godly things were transferred from one to another. In 1 Timothy, however, You teach us that there can also be negative, evil impartations (which we’ll discuss more tomorrow). Lord God, please help us to educate ourselves (if we don’t know much about this) and to use the resources we’ve been given to benefit, grow and thrive! Thank You Lord that just by sitting under Holy Spirit-led preaching, and by listening to messages and sermons online, by radio, etc., we can receive impartations by voice. And when we see godly, mature, pure, Spirit-filled believers, walking in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, may we have the humility and wisdom to seek them out for impartations. You said that we do not have because we do not ask (James 4:2). So we ask, Lord God, that as we have (the right) hands laid on us, and as we sit under Holy Spirit-led preaching, that You would please impart to us healings, spiritual gifts, and blessings! We want all that You have for us, Lord God! We want to be perfect and complete, and lacking nothing (James 1:4)! Thank You Lord for all the resources You’ve made available for us! In Jesus’s most awesome name, amen.
