Verse & Prayer by Jolie On How Are We Taking Care of Our Temples

Jerusalem, Israel, Old Town(walkerssk)

“…because the temple is not for man but for the Lord God” (1 Chron. 29:1). NKJV

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Cor. 6:19). NKJV

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word! In several books of the Old Testament, we can read about ALL the detail and meticulous care that went into the design, construction, development and maintenance of the temple to house Your presence – where the children of Israel could go to meet with You. And in this 1 Cor. verse: we are taught that the word “temple” is a symbol of for our body. Just as the temple in the Old Testament housed Your holy presence, the temples of our bodies house Your holy presence (Your Holy Spirit)! And just like the ancient temple, our temples (bodies) have been meticulously designed, constructed and developed by You. In both of these Scriptures, You are teaching us that our temples don’t belong to us, but to You. They are YOUR property. So the obvious question is: how are we taking care of our temples, the bodies You’ve given us? What kind of maintenance are we giving our temples? Lord God, please forgive us if we’ve done harmful things to our bodies! Please forgive us for taking our bodies for granted and neglecting them or ignoring warning signs that we need to step-up our maintenance! May we be keenly aware of everything we put into our bodies, and treat our bodies with the respect and honor that You expect us to. After all, we’ve only each been given one temple. This is it until we leave this earth. Thank You Lord! In Jesus’s mighty name, amen.
